A Brief History... St. Michael's Lutheran Church began life as a mission parish started by the Board of American Missions of the Lutheran Church of America. The first service was held on the 4th of July, 1965, at the Presbyterian Meeting hall in Amagansett. On the 19th of September, 1965, 35 adults signed the charter of the church, and services were moved to the Amagansett Legion Hall. Ground was broken for the church structure in July, 1970 and the dedication of the church was held in March 1972.
We believe in the triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We accept the Holy Scriptures as the sole authority in all matters of faith and life. We believe that all have sinned and are in need of a Savior. We accept Jesus Christ, the crucified and risen Lord as that Savior. We believe that God has given his Son Jesus Christ as a free gift that we cannot earn but only gratefully receive. We accept two Sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. We practice infant baptism and believe that Christ is truly present in Communion in, with and under the forms of bread and wine. We come together to worship as the people of God, gathered around Word and Sacrament. We go into the world to serve others and share our faith. |
